Nacel Canada's Montréal Bilingual Program

Nacel Canada is pleased to offer a new Bilingual Program in Montréal, Québec. Students will improve both their English and French language abilities by attending classes in an English high school while enjoying their homestay with a Francophone host family.

Montréal is the second largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. Montréal's name is taken from Mont-Royal, the peaked hill located in the centre of the city. With almost 2 million inhabitants, Montréal is consistently rated as one of the world's most livable cities.

Montréal is a city full of character and life. Festivals abound, year round. From strolling the harbour front of the Old City to enjoying the international flair of the cafés and bistros, there is never a shortage of things to see and do in Montréal.

Nacel Canada has established relationships with a number of high schools within the English Montréal School Board.

The Saint Leonard area of the city is home to three such schools:

John F. Kennedy High School boasts a very strong athletic program and even has its own swimming pool and two gymnasiums. Their soccer and swim teams regularly compete in larger tournaments.

Rosemount High School has an award winning music program. Each year the school band travels to a North America wide competition in Boston. Rosemount also has a strong athletics program with two double gymnasiums and tennis courts on site.

Laurier MacDonald High School offers an International Baccalaureate program. They have a special media arts centre for photography, video and computer design courses. Laurier McDonald also has its own swimming pool.

In the Southern part of the city, we are working with two more schools:

Marymount Academy offers a mix of helpful student services including English as Second Language tutoring. They also have a very strong music program.

Students with an aptitude for mathematics might like to consider attending Royal Vale High School with its emphasis on math sciences. The sports fields around the school are perfect for the football and soccer teams.

And located more centrally:

For students who have strong interest in the arts, the prestigious F.A.C.E. High School might be an option. While enrolment is limited, this school offers advanced training in music, vocal performance, fine arts and drama. It is located very close to Mont-Royal and the vibrant shopping areas of downtown Montréal.

Family Experience

Living with the French host family is the best way to improve your conversational French and learn firsthand the Québecois culture. The languages you've been learning will come alive as you make new friends, share their culture and discover new things about yourself and your world.

Host families are carefully chosen by a local Coordinator. They welcome their student as an additional member of the family and provide care and support... "A home away from home". The student should be prepared to take part in family life and to help with various tasks around the house (making their own bed, doing dishes, etc.), as a full member of the family.

During the stay, a student may be hosted by more than one family. In any case, becoming part of a community of students and families abroad is an enriching experience, which brings growth in self-confidence and an increased awareness of the world we share.

The personal growth and communication skills gained from an experience abroad can make an important difference in college and in career goals.

Support Network

Nacel Canada Inc. offers continuous support to participants. A local Coordinator will work with each individual student, including arranging their homestay and acting as their contact throughout the year.
