Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean Region - Northern Québec
Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is a vast territory of wild, visually stunning landscapes featuring large lakes, meandering rivers, towering mountains and a fjord carved out of a glacial valley. Located in the centre of the province and just north of Quebec City, Saguenay features such attractions as the huge Lake Saint-Jean (circled by the popular Véloroute des Bleuets or Blueberry Cycling Route) and the Valin Mountains, a popular spot for a variety of outdoor activities. The captivating Saguenay Fjord, with its sharp cliffs and sloping valley, is scattered with picturesque villages reminiscent of rural France. All this natural beauty creates endless recreational opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast, including hiking, sailing, horseback riding and cycling in the summer and snowmobiling, ice fishing, dog sledding and snowshoeing in the winter. The Saguenay Region is also a popular summer retreat area for Québécois looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

This vast region is named after the Rivière Saguenay and the great lake, Lac Saint-Jean, which it links to the St. Lawrence. The river winds through a majestic fjord whose breathtaking rocky walls hold their own special fascination. To the north extends a vast wilderness of forests and lakes simply brimming with adventure. Many of the 275,000 local residents live in riverside towns that are also home to a lively cultural scene.
